Wow, it’s been a hot minute since I took a moment to stop and update you on happenings in my life. No better time like the present, eh?
It’s definitely Fall around here, and one day I came home from work and realized that I must buy a rake. My front lawn is absolutely covered in leaves and I’ll need to get those cleaned up before the winter comes.
But it’s beautiful. Especially this tree in my front yard-how can I not be enamored it when it looks like this?
Bub is doing alright too. We’ve had some behavioral issues like peeing in the house or getting into things he shouldn’t, but I know it’s my fault. He needs training, and as soon as I can afford it I’ll be signing up for behavioral classes. He also needs more exercise than I’m giving him and some socialization that he hasn’t gotten yet. I keep thinking I’ve been a bad dog mom, because I’ve been so busy and for a good two weeks of the past little while I’ve been sick, but he still seems pretty happy and content as long as I fill his Kong and love on him. I also bought him a tie out for the yard to use only when I’m out there working on the yard so he can hang out with me. I really need to get a fence.
I also came up with a solution for not having any storage for my spices and cookware. So I hung some hooks for pans and potholders, and put in some corner shelves above the stove to hold spices (yes I know that spices need to be in a cool area-duh-but it stays really cool there even when the stove is on so I’m not worried) and I’m pleased with how it looks. I just need to hang my cute cooking print I bought a while back (if I can find and unpack it) in the space between the shelves here.
I did a little decorating for Halloween, but not much. I think the extent of it at this point is the pumpkins on my front porch, the skeleton I got a little while ago, and this one little wall with cute Halloween stickers on it. Also, since I bought the skeleton and the skeleton dog I couldn’t help but pose them for this picture and caption it “Me, waiting for a good man.”
I’ve also been crafting again, and finally taught myself to make some granny squares which has been on my crafty to do list for a long time. I’m hoping to make an afghan or two-since I’ve never done it. Plus, my good friend Blaire brought me back this Starbucks Disneyland mug and isn’t it darling?
My money situation is terrible right now. I’ve been pretty broke due to all the home buying expenses and the fact that October is a double mortgage month. I’m switching to the biweekly payment plan, so I still had to pay for October in full on the first, and then the switch goes through on the 16th to where I start paying every paycheck. It knocks $20k+ off my loan and earns me an extra $11k equity in only 10 years (which is about how long I plan to live here before selling and upgrading my home) so it’s a good decision, but it’s damn hard right now.
To save money, I want to learn how to coupon (if anyone has any good tips please leave them in the comments below!) and I’ve been doing Bountiful Baskets where it’s basically a giant basket of fruits and veggies for only $15 and you can add other things on like giant cases of apples or loaves of bread. You do it on a weekly basis, or every other week or whatever suits you best. I’ve been mostly sticking with just the $15 basket, but once in a while a cool add on basket happens-like the first time when I got the grill pack, and this was my first haul:
How do I use all those fruits and veggies? Well I’ve done a LOT of roasted veggies, which are easy and delicious. Just cut them up, layer them on a baking sheet with olive oil, add some seasonnings (I’ve been loving adding some salt, pepper, garlic, and a little bit of a cajun mix I have to spice them up) and bake them at 450 for around 20-30 minutes. Delicious. I also made a heaping pot of all-veggie soup which was rad, as well as my all-veggie spaghetti I shared a little bit ago.
Otherwise things are okay around the house too. Since I’m broke I’ve been just staying in and watching TV or listening to my Audiobook lately while crafting. I also have this little crazy cat that showed up on my doorstep and I’ve started feeding. He just meows and meows at me if he sees me, he wants food, and since Aspen (who comes over and puppy sits for me) decided to spoil him with fancy soft food, he refuses to eat the hard cat food I have for him. I’m pretty sure at least three other people in the neighborhood are feeding him, and he used to be all bones but he’s starting to feel a bit softer now. Also one of the neighbors built him a cozy warm cat house on her porch.
But we also had quite a bit of fun roaming the convention and spending the weekend together. We went to a lot of fun panels, including Jenna Louise Coleman from Doctor Who, Ian Sommerhalder from Vampire Diaries (What. A. Babe.), the Phelps twins (Fred and George from Harry Potter-also babes), a Twisted Toons panel where cartoon voices read Harry Potter to us-it was so much fun.
The following weekend my friends and went to the Fear Factory with our free passes from Comic Con, and our other friends Heather & Mike joined us, along with Ken’s niece Kelsey and her boyfriend Tim. I find that I’m no longer scared of haunted houses, I have fun, but nothing shocks or surprises me anymore, even when I pay extra and allow them to get physical. Kelsey on the other hand… She sobbed through the entire haunted house. Also, I was the 7th wheel, but I’m accustomed to that.
What have you been up to lately?
I’m going to go ahead and consider a lot of this confessions and link up with Aubrey. 🙂
