How did you get started blogging at Nosh & Nurture?
It honestly started as a therapeutic outlet for some health issues I was facing and it took me on it’s own beautiful journey. As a journalist, a blog just felt natural in a way to write about what was going on, creating healthy recipes, connecting to the community and hopefully inspiring others. It inspired me to go back to school to become a nutritionist and has grown into a travel blog as well.
How did you meet Mr. Charming? Did you know he was the one right away?
We met when we were teenagers and we were good friends. We had a huge crush on each other back then but never did anything about it. About 9 years ago, after not speaking for 9 years, he looked me up online and asked to get dinner to catch up. It was like nothing had changed and I fell head over heels in love. We will be married 5 years next year and I’m more in love every day.
Tell us about your fur-babies! What are they like? We love fur-babes around here!
My fur-babies are my world! haha. We have a black lab/border collie mix named Princeton who is 12 and is my protector. Our baby Charlie is a one year old miniature schnauzer and has so much personality. They are totally spoiled and are our kiddos right now.
Where has been your favorite place to travel to and why?
Oh man. That’s a hard one. Though I have to say, even though I’m from California, Mr. Charming and I did a 9 day tour of the California coast last April and it was a perfect vacation of relaxation, glamour and adventure and it’s probably my favorite vacation to date. We also love spending time in Hawaii – we always go to Kai Kanani Sailing for their nice little sailing trips. I also love St. Thomas in the Caribbean.
What inspired your love of music? How did you end up signed to a label?
Birth inspired me, haha. From the time I could talk I was singing. I worked professionally in music from the age of 16, I worked with Disney in my teens and early twenties, touring with Jesse McCartney, Nina Sky, Dream and Otown. #Throwback – haha. I signed to Universal last year and am primarily working as a songwriter now, as I haven’t toured since 2011. It’s baby time now 🙂
What prompted you to become a Certified Personal Nutritionist?
My health issues. I had to give up gluten, dairy and many other foods in 2011 and am still on my healing journey. I wanted to help others who had similar fears and struggles and wanted to show them it doesn’t have to be scary or hard. That they can create organic, delicious, healthy, allergen-free meals that are comforting, affordable and delicious.
Where do you see yourself and your blog in 5 years?
I try to live one day at a time. In my early twenties I only ever looked to the future and never enjoyed the moment I was in. That’s what record labels will do to you. Haha. I pray that it continues to be fruitful and successful, if that’s what God wants from it. I just focus on giving Him glory through my posts, connections and strides I take with it.
What is your favorite recipe?
Even though I eat healthy, I’m still a sucker for comfort food. I love a good slice of pie in the fall, and I make gluten and dairy free apple and strawberry handpies that I’m obsessed with. I also make a very popular dairy and gluten free lasagna that is my dinner party go-to
What advice would you give someone who’s trying to change their life and get healthier?
I would tell them what I tell all my friends and new clients. That it’s a lifestyle, not a diet, and that change is hard. It takes commitment. Understanding that health is more important than being satisfied by foods that don’t benefit you. And I would let them know that healthy doesn’t have to mean boring. It means experimenting and adventure. Flavor and nutrients. And when anyone asks me how to get healthier, or change their life, I give them my card. I’m always open to answer questions and do consults.
What are your favorite posts to write?
The raw, gritty posts that let my readers know who I am. I value authenticity. The recipes are great, and they are way it all started. But telling the stories of my testimony, my health journey, my diagnoses, our marriage insights, the loss of our baby. Those really represent my heart and why I do what I do. And why I want to help other women struggling with similar issues. A good place to start on my blog would be my New Here? page or About Me.
