Wow! I almost missed a June update, can you believe it’s almost July? Time is flying and Summer has been SO busy. How’s your Summer been? I hope good so far. I think it’s time for my Currently in June post and some life updates-you’re totally due some updates because so much has been happening. On another note, if you’ve emailed me and I haven’t responded, I’m SO sorry and I’ll be getting back to you as soon as possible. I’m buried in emails I haven’t been able to catch up on. Please don’t stop loving me over it. 😉
Currently in June, I’m…
Reading: I just finished the first two books in the Modern Witch series by Debora Geary – A Modern Witch and A Hidden Witch. I haven’t decided what my next read is… Well, listen, because I’m all about audio books lately and haven’t had time to pick up my next actual physical book. Sad, but unfortunately what I have to do at the moment. I’m thinking I’ll either listen to The Wild Girl by Kate Forsyth or Madame Picasso by Anne Girard since I have them on Audible already but haven’t listened to them yet.
Watching: I’ve been watching Reign like crazy… I liked the show when it first started, and then in the middle I was pretty meh about it, but this last season really got me hooked again. It’s been pretty intense, and I have a thing for historical fiction and re-imaginings. As for TV it’s been a little bit of everything… I’m trying to watch the second season of Grace and Frankie, we binged the entire new season of OITNB (Whoa, am I right?!?), and it’s been some Gilmore Girls (boyfriend wants to watch it, isn’t he perfect?), Friends, Dexter, and Rick & Morty. Kind of a weird mix of shows, but we’re catching the boyfriend up. He’s been living under a rock.
I also broke down and bought four blue-ray movies at Costco this week. I haven’t bought a movie in a long time (well, actually, I bought Deadpool right when it came out) but I HAD to have them… I picked up two Disney releases-Oliver and Company and Dumbo, and two Studio Ghibli movies-Kiki’s Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke.
Listening To: Mostly audio books, but also a little bit of new music here and there because of the radio at my new part-time job. my latest new-found song love is Halsey with New Americana. Such a good sound, and the video and lyrics to this one kind of make a big political statement.
Excited For: A big camping trip I’m trying to put together at the end of the month… Also, we have tickets to see Panic! at the Disco and Wheezer this month too. It should be a fun (but busy again) month.
Planning: I’m throwing my friend Ortie a baby shower this weekend and have been planning that.
Working on: Blog posts, editing, and more time doing design stuff from home.
Wanting: More time in the day and more money in my wallet. You know, the usual.
June Life Updates
As I said, June has been crazy busy, but it’s also been filled with a lot of good things. One of the main ones is that I got a second job. It’s just a very very part time job, around 8-12 hours a week, depending on the shift, and it’s been pretty fun. I’m now working as a sales associate on the side for Torrid. I pretty much just got it for the discount and because I needed some social interaction… The money hasn’t been the reason, which is a good thing because I’ve spent more than I’ve made… haha. I just need to build up my wardrobe for the first bit, then I can start saving some of the side money I make from it. I pretty much only get dressed up for work, and man do I love getting all dolled up and fashionable to go into Torrid.
So far, my favorite thing is when you get someone who comes in and says “I have no idea what to buy and I need an outfit for [a date, work event, gala, etc.]” or “I’ve never shopped here before and I really need a whole new wardrobe” and you get to help them pick things to try on. It’s even better when they just love something you picked out for them, and they hadn’t picked it for themselves or tried it before. My second favorite thing is dressing the mannequins… I don’t get to do it often, but man I just love putting outfits together! Who knew fashion would be my thing? I just needed to get into plus-size fashion and love it.
Home life has had a few kind-of changes. Yesterday we officially moved Boyfriend into my house. I say “kind-of” because even though yesterday was the first day we officially lived together, we’ve only spent one or two nights apart since March, so it’s basically been like he’s been living there without his stuff for a while. It was a mad dash to get all of his stuff in the house and then get to work on time, but thanks to our good friend Kristina and her help (plus the use of her van) we totally pulled it off.
Bub loves having Boyfriend here, and I love catching them in super sweet moments. Boyfriend is soooo good at taking care of Bub. He feeds him, lets him out, gives him love, and Bub has chosen to move his bedding to the floor on Boyfriend’s side of the bed instead… Traitor. At least they are so dang cute together.
Speaking of… A few weeks ago we get a call from Boyfriend’s old landlord. His ex had moved out of the house they’d shared and left his car there, and the landlord wanted it gone. We decided to drive over and make sure we could start it, since he was pretty sure that she hadn’t been driving it and that it had just sat for a while, and not only did we find a car just stuffed with random junk (like a rusty old BBQ, dirty blankets, and luckily his letter jacket we weren’t sure he’d get back) we found she’d gone off and abandoned the cat too! I couldn’t just leave the cat, so we headed over to my grandparents’ house and they came over and helped us get the car back to their place, and they took the cat on a temporary basis. Thank goodness for my awesome parents, they picked up Skye and they’ve taken her down to live with them. They’re loving her, but her long hair is driving them crazy… I’ll be sure to share pictures if my mom follows through on her thread to give Skye a shave down this Summer-I told her to make her look like a lion.
We also were able to get together for two different BBQs with my family. The first for my Dad’s birthday, and the second for Father’s Day and my sister’s birthday. I got my dad and grandpa each a personalized pocket knife, and my little sister (who’s Ariel-obsessed) an Pop Funko Ariel Keychain, and a Little Mermaid Charm necklace, and wristlet from the Ariel Collection at Torrid.
We’ve been feeding this cute little grey stray kitty that keeps showing up in our yard. The neighbor thinks she might be a momma cat, but I’m not sure this is the same one because she’s tiny and it doesn’t look like she’s given birth recently. The other day she did show up with an older looking grey tabby also, both begging for food, but I haven’t seen the other one since. This little girl, who we’re officially calling Sneak, is too wild to let us get too close, but she’s started just waiting for us in the mornings and evenings staring us down like “hey human, where’s my dinner?” She’s so cute.
We got to see our Aspen last night. Can you tell Bub missed her? We’re trying to get her a position at Torrid too-I think she’d enjoy it and she needed a part time job. Especially since, with Boyfriend and the roommate around, we haven’t needed a puppy sitter for quite some time.
With Ken and Kristina’s family moving into their new house recently, I decided to get all three of my godkids new bedding for an early birthday present. I took them with me to Target and let them pick out what they like, and this is what we ended up with. Kat’s bedding was my favorite of all time (bottom right) because it’s so ruffly and pretty, and she really dug it too-she even opted to sleep with it instead of her cherished Elsa blanket. Kailee and Kaden picked out their bedding, Kaden opting for the Astronaut set that I’d really liked, and Kailee picking out a pink comforter that she felt looked more like the grown-up teenager she wants to be… She’s only ten, so at least it’s still pretty and girly and she can make it match her new room.
Speaking of Kat Kat, when I was babysitting her a few weeks ago we were sitting at the table eating breakfast when she suddenly looks over to me and says “So, how’s your day?” and I was floored. When did this cute little baby become a person who makes conversation at the breakfast table? WOW. They grow up so dang fast. She’s still baby cute though.
How was your June?
