Hello my loves, I’m back to you with my first Saturday Spotlight in a while, are you ready for this? You should be. I’m introducing you to the lovely Tiffany of Straight Hair Club. Have you visited Straight Hair Club before? It’s a fun beauty-based blog with all the details on having and maintaining beautiful and healthy straight hair. She’s also decided to offer you fantastic readers a wonderful prize… But before I tell you more about the giveaway, take a moment to get to know more about Tiffany and her blog.
How did you get started blogging at Straight Hair Club?
My hair is where I spend most of my “personal care” budget these days. I used to have thick wavy hair that gets straighter as it grows longer, so having straight hair was as easy as having a few passes of the flat iron. But regular blow drying made my hair brittle and I became prone to hair fall. So now, on top of shampoo and conditioner, I also spend a fortune on hair vitamins and essential oils like argan and rosemary oil.
When do you first recall feeling passionate about straight hair?
Ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted my hair straight. The look is so effortless and low maintenance, not to mention looking chic and sleek. Curls are great, but they look like they take a lot of time and effort to get ’em right. I know that other girls, especially those with ethnic hair, have a hard time achieving that pin straight look so the amount of effort is really relative depending on the type of hair you’re born with. But having naturally curly hair shouldn’t stop anyone from getting straight hair — one’s hairstyle is always a personal preference.
What are some of your interests besides hair?
Travel and art! I love going to new and interesting places and meeting people. This may go against popular advice, but I feel comfortable talking to strangers. Of course, I’m vigilant and careful whenever I travel, but that doesn’t stop me from exploring and enjoying being in an unfamiliar place. I love to sketch, but I’m not particularly good at it (I lack practice!). I like sketching famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, which is one of places I’m hoping to visit in the near future.
What are your favorite hair products?
I like Argan oil – I don’t have a particular brand in mind as I’m still trying out different brands, but one thing I know for sure, I don’t like the smell of 100% pure Argan oil! I like shampoo and conditioner that has Tea Tree oil; it helps keep the dandruff away. My hair doesn’t like using one shampoo/conditioner for long. If I use a product for over a month, I tend to get dandruff and dry hair so I mix it up. One of my staple shampoo/conditioner is the Tresemme Hair Fall line; it does help minimize hair fall.
Do you have any tips for girls that have really curly hair but want to achieve the straight look?
First of all, try to figure out whether you want straight hair just for a couple of days, or for months (or years) at a time. If you want the former, opt for an occasional flat iron to straighten hair. Yes, there are flat irons that can straighten really curly hair. But if you want straight hair every day, then consider going for a relaxer or a keratin treatment. They cost more and need a lot of maintenance, but you’ll save time ironing your hair every day and you won’t be constantly subjecting your hair to heat which can really be damaging in the long run. According to beauty mag, HairInsights, women spend 55 minutes every day on their beauty. Obviously, it’s important for us to look good and if you have curly hair which you want to straighten, this will take a bit of time to do. I recommend setting your straighteners to the highest heat setting to get your hair straight as quickly as possible!
Whichever method you choose, it’s important to take good care of your hair. Deep condition regularly. Take a break from using heat products or chemical treatments. Grow out your natural hair. Above all, love your hair. It is, after all, your crowning glory 🙂
If you could offer one piece of hair advice to all the girls out there, what would it be?
Always use a heat protectant when using a flat iron or any heat styling tool. This cannot be emphasized enough. A lot of hair damage happen because women don’t use any heat protectant at all. Protect your hair and keep it healthy.
