Organization Essentials for Your Desk
Thankfully for us all, we don’t have to spend a lot of money on being organized. A small investment or homemade replacement can go a long way. You do, however, need to spend a bit of time and effort into getting yourself set up right. By decluttering and getting your mind in gear, you can learn to be a lot more organized, just by using your desk.
One of the first things you need is a planner. This could be something you pick up cheap online or at a local store, something you choose to invest in, or a book you make a home. Either way, you’re going to want to have a notebook that you can use to plan out your day – whether that’s with work or the chores you have to do around the home. Writing it all down makes it easier for you to get done.
A Date Book
You also need a date book. At the moment, you might use your phone for appointments are reminders. But, they can easily be erased or snoozed. Instead, you want to have everything written down and have a paper copy to look at each morning. You could keep important bits of information in it like meetings, addresses and even great clips hours and locations if you’re trying to keep on top of your appointments.
A Jotter Pad
Your brain is a mysterious place. You often find that you come up with crazy ideas all of the time, only to forget them before you get to use them. So, rather than lose out on any more cool thoughts that pop up at random times, work on writing them all down. Keep a small jotter pad on your desk, in the kitchen or even next to your bed. Make sure to add a pen too. That way you can scribble down your ideas and write them up formally at a later date.
When you have a lot of appointments to keep track off, especially if you have a family, your own planner might not be enough. That’s where a calendar comes in. You could keep it on your desk or the wall – just as long as you look at every day and can keep up to date with the events you have going on that week.
When you have a lot of paperwork to file, everything can get very disorganized, very quickly. So, what you need to do instead, is work with labels. You can add labels to boxes, magazine files and shelving to neaten things up. Even if you have to keep things in piles temporarily, if they’re labelled, at least their organized chaos!
