Another month, come and gone… I have to go back to work in two weeks and I’m pretty sad about it. lt’s not that I don’t like my job, it’s a good job, it’s just that it’s going to be hard to leave my sweet little baby for 9+ hours a day. She’ll have her daddy at home taking care of her, but it’s still going to be super difficult. For now, it seems like a good time to share my February favorites, a currently update, and what our little family got up to this month.
Currently in February I’m…
Reading… Life After Life: A Novel by Kate Atkinson. I’m not sure about this yet… It’s about a girl that keeps dying, and I am not sure where it’s going or what the point is yet… Maybe alternate timelines or something? I’m going to stick with it because I’m curious about how it’s going to play out.
Watching… C loves the Bachelor, so I’ve been roped into watching with him lately… But then I found the show Unreal and got OBSESSED with it. It’s a fictional show about the behind the scenes running of a show like the Bachelor. I’ve also been re-watching Community.
Drinking… Lots of coffee… Coffee with my new favorite creamer-the International Delight Reece’s coffee creamer. It’s sooooo good!
Eating… Cinnamon Roll Oreos. My brother got me so hooked!
Feeling… Anxious about going back to work and leaving my baby. It’s so rough.
Planning… To get this house clean before I go back to work so it’s easier for C to take care of the baby.
February Life Updates
February was a whirl-wind month for our family, full of fun and excitement and a few little challenges such as C ending it with Pneumonia-that’s not fun, but mostly otherwise it’s been a blast.
This year for Valentine’s Day we did a family date. We took the kids out to dinner and then came home and celebrated with a little gift for each of them. It was wonderful, and who knew V-day was much more fun with kids than it is when you’re just a couple?
The boys have been spending a lot more time with us, and it’s been wonderful. Amélie sure loves her brothers, and they really love her to. B can always make her laugh, and they had the sweetest little moment the other night when he was holding her and showing her pictures on his phone. S always checks on her and ensures us that she’s okay while we’re in the car, and he begs to hold her and feed her every time he visits. I am so glad she has such smart and loving brothers to look out for her.
We just started getting them for overnight visits, and while we expected it to be really rough since the littlest has never spent a night away from his mom, it’s been soooo easy. We’ve had no upsets, no tears, and no drama. The first overnight we took the boys to a monster truck ralley and then had a camp out in the living room, and the second we spent down to my parent’s house. It’s been a blast, and they both seem sad to leave when they go back home to their mom’s after.
Adventures at Grandma and Grandpa’s
We’ve been spending a lot of time down to my mom and dad’s house lately so they can see the baby, and because there’s lots for the boys to do. My dad is LOVING being a grandpa, not only to little miss Amélie (whom he adores), but to the boys as well. He’s teaching them about horses and the farm life, and he led B around on the horse as well as let him drive the tractor this past weekend.
My cousing Sammy has a little Shetland Pony named Buster that we’ve taken the kids down to enjoy a little bit. We’ve led them around, and when the weather is better we’re going to hook him up to a little car that can pull the boys around. It’s been a blast
They’ve also got a good taste of farm life lately, and it’s been pretty good for them. B is super brave, and climbed the hay stack (with help and supervision from my brother), and S isn’t quite as brave as his brother but he’s improving. Since we first started getting them his fears have slowly been conquered. He used to not even want to go inside a play place at all, now he climbs all through them and even goes down the slide (which was hard for him at first too.) We’ve also gotten him up on the pony once or twice, and it’s great to see him coming out of his shell.
Winter Finally Came
Utah hasn’t had hardly any Winter at all, so we laughed when the groundhog predicted more Winter. Then, a week later, it was a blizzard and we’ve had a few big storms since. The snow has been nice and deep, and Bubba is the only one who really enjoys it. I did dress Amélie up and take her out for her first snow experience though. She was unimpressed.
Speaking of Bubba, he’s been an absolute doll with the kids. He’s always been good with kids (it’s strange adults he doesn’t like), but we took it slow with introducing him to the boys and the baby. It was a few months worth of visits before we let him out to play with them instead of being kenneled while they were here. He LOVES them, and gets excited when they’re here and sad when they leave. He’s also super sweet with the baby, most of the time he ignores her but over the last few weeks he’s been sneaking up to give her gentle little kisses here and there.
Here are a few of our favorite things from the month of February…
February Favorites for Baby
Little girl has had a little congestion lately, and boy-you never realize how many tools you need that deal with snot and boogers before now. We ended up buying the FridaBaby NoseFrida Nasal Aspirator after a friend recommended it, and it sounds so gross but it works SO much better than the little bulb aspirator. We also got the little OogieBear Ear and Nose Cleaner which has been a huge help for cleaning out her nose.
Are these not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? They are good quality wooden blocks that have the planets on them. They also provide information on each block about the size of the planet, it’s distance from the sun/position in the solar system, it’s moons, etc. I LOVE them!
Other Baby Goods We Loved
Some other fun purchase have included the Dekor Diaper Pail (in Mint, of course) which I like because you don’t have to shove it down in like the Diaper Genie, you just drop it. We bought some Sock-Ons, which are a nifty little clothing item meant to help keep socks on, and these adorable Unicorn and Cupcake swaddles which help her sleep at night.
I already mentioned the foodie items that I’m loving in my Currently section above, but I’m also loving these organizational products I bought. They’re so great! Plus, the paint pens and metallic paint in the widget below have come in super handy when painting rocks (which I’ll talk about soon).
