Well, September sure has been a crazy ride. I’d be lying if I said it was an easy month, so many things went wrong I almost lost track of them all… However, I’d also be amiss to say I didn’t love September. It’s one of the best months of the year, and there’s so much excitement for the turning of Fall and upcoming holiday season… I don’t get these personal updates written as often as possible, so I figured today was a good time to sit down and write out a September favorites post with some updates for you.
Here’s what is currently happening in my life as I sit and write this post…
Currently Reading/Listening to… The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. This is one of my ultimate favorite books, and I’ve read a BUNCH of times, but I’d never listened to it on audiobook before. It’s like a 47 hour book, so it was perfect to spend an Audible credit on.
Currently Watching… I just finished Atypical on Netflix (it’s so good, and really shows you more of what it’s like to have a family member with Autism) and I’ve been watching Once Upon a Time… It’s not good. But I kind of want to see what happens? I can’t wait for Fall TV to start back up.
Currently Drinking… Coffee, as always. Lots and lots of coffee, and not nearly enough water.
Currently Eating… A lot healthier… Having a stomach bug last week made me eat less, and now I only really crave healthy food. At least there was one win from being sick? Haha
Currently Planning… To go to Witchapalooza at Gardner Village with the kids tonight, and to decorate for Halloween this weekend.
September Life Updates
As I mentioned, there was a bit of a bumpy road in September for all of us. We definitely had our fair share of rough days in September, especially when it came to health issues. Amélie and I were both sick with a cold and/or allergies for most of the month… My sweet girl was sooo boogery, and though we’d scheduled and paid for a second swimming class we ended up missing every single one of them due to all of the snot… I figured other kids and parents didn’t need to deal with that in the pool… The boys also had their share of injuries and antibiotics with sinus infections, pink eye, and various other ailments.
Baby’s First Virus (Norovirus)
Tuesday morning of last week I woke up dizzy and severely sick. I could barely leave the bathroom, and shortly after I called in sick to work I started vomiting. I thought it was food poisoning, until it lasted 3 days and my poor baby girl caught it. Amélie woke me up at 3AM Thursday morning by barfing all over me in bed. It was our first stomach sickness with baby (and honestly the worst stomach sickness I’ve ever had) and so we managed to get into the doctor that day. There was nothing she could do, she told us it was likely Norovirus because it’s going around bad in our valley right now, and to stay hydrated and away from work for 72 hours after symptoms ended. We survived, but it was rough. Watching her be sick was the hardest thing I’ve done yet as a mom…
The Pole Creek & Bald Mountain Fires
If you’ve seen anything about the fires burning in Utah, you’ll know that it’s a really bad year for fires here… One of the worst we’ve had in a very long time. There were two fires started by lightning down to the south end of Utah County. The Pole Creek fire and the Bald Mountain fire were both discovered when they were only the size of .5 an acre, and the Forest Service decided to let them burn. Unfortunately both of them became massively out of control. Those two little fires grew so fast and merged to burn over 100,000 acres. We could even see it from my parent’s house, and the above photo of the Bald Mountain fire was taken with my phone from my dad’s back yard.
Burning Our Family Ranch
Unfortunately as the fires continued to spiral out of control and evacuations continued (3 towns/communities were evacuated for almost 2 weeks, and many remain in pre-evac status even now) and spread into Diamond Fork Canyon, which happens to be where my family ranch that my great grandparent’s left when they died years ago is. Since it was the Elk Hunt, my grandpa and several family members were staying up there. By the time they were forced to evacuate the main way out was on fire and closed, so they had to take a really long round about way over the mountain to get to safety. Over the next couple of days our family property burned.
In the above map, screenshot last week (I don’t have the heart to look at it anymore for a newer update), the #1 is where my family’s camping spot is and the #2 is where my uncle’s cabin is. We’ve been told the cabins stand still, but I have no idea about our little pavilion, storage shed, four wheelers, etc. We wont know until the fire is contained (it still is only about half contained) and we’re allowed back up to check it out. So heartbreaking. I’m glad we took the kids camping there once before it was decimated.
Amélie’s September Updates
But September wasn’t all bad… We got up to some fun stuff, and I enjoyed every moment with my precious baby girl. She’s growing so fast (I can’t believe she’ll be 10 months old in just 4 days-wow!) and it’s bittersweet. I miss cuddling my sweet little baby, but every new milestone is a unique and wonderful adventure. I can take her out to eat and put her in a high chair, she climbs bookshelves (so scary haha), and she goes about 100 miles per hour.
Baby’s First Halloween
We’re gearing up for Amélie’s first Halloween and already rocking adorable Halloween outfits, jammies, and reading all the Halloween board books. I’m obsessed with dressing her in pumpkin outfits, and Snoopy Halloween pjs… She’s SO cute.
Amélie & Ollie’s Baby Date
“I’ll have the steak, and she’ll have lobster. Put it on my mom’s card.”
A few weeks ago my friend Shiane and I took our babies out for a baby date. We walked through Trolley Square and did a little shopping, and then stopped and had lunch at a local brewery. Gah, they’re the cutest.
And, since it is the end of the month, I figured I’d share some of my absolute favorite things I loved this month with you.
September Favorites in Beauty
Since baby girl was born, I’ve had some rough skin issues with my face and not much was helping. However, since I bought the Soap & Glory Peaches & Clean face wash, Pacifica Pineapple Quench Oil-Free Water Serum, and the Pacifica Pineapple Bubbles Clarifying Bubble Mask it’s improved soooo much. I’m sure some of that is hormones, but hey-if something working you keep letting it work. I’m loving using these, and I think I’ll stick with them. Also, I always have really rough feet, but this O’Keeffe’s Healthy Feet product is seriously helping.
September Favorites Around the House
Halloween Animated Skeleton Fish Bowl – The boys have been begging us for fish for a while, so these will have to suffice. It’s a Halloween decor item, but I’m totally going to keep it out all year. The perfect pet! No feeding, no cleaning, and endless entertainment for baby girl.
Fill N Save 4 Reusable K Cups – Lately I’ve been a combination of wanting to be more eco-friendly and totally bored of my limited K-cup flavor options. So, I saw these great reusable K Cups on Amazon, and they’ve been great. I can buy any coffee I want and fill them, and there are four in a pack so I can fill them ahead of time and they’re ready for the next few days.
Dapple All Purpose Cleaner Spray, Lavender – This has been my favorite cleaner lately. It’s baby safe, and it actually does an amazing job of cleaning. Bonus, it smells amazing.
Grove.co Subscription – Speaking of cleaning, have you heard of Grove.co? I just signed up and I’m already kind of obsessed with it. It helps that signing up they gave me A TON of free stuff. I mean seriously, they gave me the following free right off the bat with my first order.
- Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap (Apple Cider scented)
- Mrs. Meyer’s All Purpose Cleaner (Pumpkin scented)
- Mrs. Meyer’s Dish Soap (Pumpkin Scented)
- Glass Spray Bottle with a Silicone Sleeve
- 2 Walnut Scrubber Sponges
- A Replaceable Head Dish Brush
- The Caddy shown above
- Mrs. Meyer’s Room Refresher (Lemon Verbena)
September Favorites for Baby
Graco Slim Fit Carseat – Honestly, I have yet to try this out for sure because it’s showing up today. However, we did a lot of reasearch and played with it in the store, and we really seem to like it. Baby girl has outgrown her infant seat and it’s time to upgrade. Since we have three across in a sedan, we needed something with a slimmer option. Plus, it was like $100 cheaper on Amazon than in the store…
You’re My Little Pumpkin Pie Board Book – This is my favorite story to read to Amélie right now. It’s very sweet, it has a nice rhyme to it, and it actually gets her interested-which is a first for books so far. She loves to sit and flip the pages while I read it to her.
Halloween and Christmas Stretchy Baby Headbands – I wanted Halloween headbands for baby girl, and these are soooooo soft and stretchy. Plus, it’s a bonus that I also got Christmas headbands, and the whole set is only like $11.
Gerber Graduates Fruit and Veggie Melts – Amélie loves to munch on Puffs, but we were worried about the amount of Arsenic in the rice powder they use to make them. So we switched to these, and she likes them just as much-maybe more.
Any way… Here’s to an awesome October.
